Weight Gain Happens With Severe Knee Injuries

Not as svelte as I used to be...

Many keep telling me I look very good. Please… I see definition lost and a waistline that has begun to bulge a bit and much more so than it used to be. My 32-33 waist pants are now a bit of a challenge to put on. It’s a sad fact—eat the same but exercise less and you’ll see those calories added in places you don’t want them

Reche Caldwell - San Diego Chargers - Torn ACL

Reche Caldwell of the NFL San Diego Chargers suffered a torn ACL.

This week the NFL team, the San Diego Chargers, determined that leading wide receiver, Reche Caldwell, has a torn ligament in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season. Caldwell was hurt in the October 17 one point loss at Atlanta and is expected to have surgery next week to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Caldwell made a spectacular one-handed grab as part of a 58 yard touchdown catch in a win against the Tennessee Titans earlier this year and said: “I was very disappointed because I’m playing well this year. Unfortunately, it happened. I’m looking forward to playing next year.” Caldwell has been San Diego’s leading receiver this year with 18 catches for 310 yards, 17.2 yards per catch average, and three touchdowns.

I’m Going to Lose It! Surgery Delayed to 11/18!

Just got a call from Vivian at Dr. Kelly’s office at the ISK Institute. Unfortunately Dr. Kelly has to be away on November 11 and is rearranging surgeries. I may have to wait another week (the one before Thanksgiving) or it can happen potentially the day before when he doesn’t usually do surgery (but who wants to have a doctor on the “off day” if you know what I mean.) I can’t move it to a week before since I have a speaking engagement the following Monday and Tuesday!

November 11 Is D-Day and New Web Site

Date is settled and web site is in creation...

I have finally settled on my “due date” which will be… drum roll please… Veteran’s Day, November 11. This date will be unmovable and comes after 4 speaking engagements and 3 out of state trips. It figures to be a good week because the following week is the one before Thanksgiving and nobody will want to have meetings. Knowing myself I’ll probably be scheduling something for Wed or Thurs. following surgery but I’ll deal with it as it comes and at least I WILL do it. Right now I’m thinking allograft but all this tunnel widening stuff is freaking me out. Check my diary for my weekly fickle, flaky feeling on auto versus allo.

Work Scheduling Hell Delays Surgery to November 11

A need to cultivate clients and participate in speaking engagements requires me to delay my surgery date...

Aghhhh!!!! I cannot take this injury any longer!!!! How I wish I would have done my surgery back in August and have been done with it. But I did need to do my research and I wouldn’t have had my new OS. But I am faced with an incredible dilemma. I had set my date for surgery for 10/21 and I just got a call that a fill in for a major conference would happen on 10/28 flying to another state. Would be major exposure and a must attend. Right now I have nothing going on in November but I keep putting off this surgery… the longer it goes the more of next summer I can kiss good bye…

Hitting The Wall - Date So Far Away!

I hit the wall today, realizing surgery is over a month away...

OK… it has been now SIX weeks since I tore my ACL. I had to be off of it for a while since I kept tweaking it and didn’t feel like I had strength. Went to the gym today and decided just to run through my Tae Kwon Do routine easily without twisting and turning on my left leg. Much to my surprise I could barely get my left leg up in the air and just do a front kick!!! I cannot tell you how FRUSTRATED I AM RIGHT NOW.

We Have A Surgeon And Date!

Finally, we have ourselves an orthopaedic surgeon and a date for my ACL reconstruction.

Well… today I visited my third and final OS, Dr. Michael A. Kelly of Insall Scott Kelly aka The ISK Institute. I had no idea that my aunt and cousin had used him before and were very happy with him. He is supposedly very well known and is/was the NJ Nets team doctor. He’s an athlete himself, completely understanding of my type A athlete mindset and felt that he really understood my problem from the inside. I liked my first doctor, Dr. George Zambetti and he’s very nice, attentive, and have only good things to say. Given family history with Kelly and feeling he understands, I think this may be the way to go although I feel bad since Dr. Z has been my doctor for years and has been attentive.

Walking and Noticing Knee Hyperextension

A short blurb about complications during walking.

For those of you wondering whether it’s typical to find yourself losing control over your knee while walking, finding that you are suddently extending your knee to the max stress point unintentionally several times a week, don’t wonder any longer. Apparently Jason at Athalon Physical Therapy told me that this is very common. Your muscles aren’t in total control and you are used to having an ACL to prevent this from happening. Good to know but I’m having too many of these semi embarassing and scary episodes that feel like I’m right at that breaking point of knee hyperextension. Will give it some time before I whine further.
